13 Jun The Active Communities Fund of Comunalia and The Coca-Cola Foundation amplifies alliances and positive impacts in Mexico
Monterrey, Nuevo León, May 17, 2021. The first stage of the Active Communities Fund triggered 123 alliances in the social ecosystem that had a direct impact on more than 35 000 people in the north, center and south of Mexico; as a result of the collaboration between Comunalia, the Coca-Cola Foundation, the Inter-American Foundation and the Mott Foundation, to address the effects of the health crisis.
In closing the first stage of the Active Communities Fund, Comunalia presented the Talk: Partnering during the covid-19 pandemic under the facilitation of Agustín Landa, Comunalia Board Chairman; and the participation of Ana Lucía Marquez, Grant Manager for Latin America of the Coca-Cola Foundation; María Luisa Olvera, Social Investment Coordinator of the Merced Querétaro Foundation; Jonathan Velasco, Director of Programs and Funds of the Oaxaca Community Foundation; and Edna Medina, Coordinator of the Mita Reactiva Program of the Punta de Mita Community Foundation.
The Active Communities Fund was a direct investment in the communities of more than 100 million pesos between July 2020 and April 2021: $12 million were invested by the Coca-Cola Foundation, $83 million pesos were mobilized locally by community foundations, and civil society organizations and grassroots groups raised $11 million pesos.
The alliance contributed to the economic and social reactivation, through the work of 15 community foundations, who, together with organizations and grassroots groups, developed 42 initiatives, which had an impact on 35,000 people, 19,000 women and 16,000 men, with a diversity of people participating in the themes of Humanitarian Aid, Access to Water, Support for Small Businesses and Empowerment of Youth and Women.
All the initiatives of the Active Communities Fund contributed to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, especially: 1 End poverty, 2 Zero hunger, 3 Health and well-being, 4 Quality education, 5 Equality of gender, 8 Decent work and economic growth, and 10 Reduction of inequalities.
Mariana Sandoval, executive director of Comunalia reported the impact, alliances, and contributions in the virtual event attended by more than 70 members of the participating community foundations, civil society organizations, grassroots groups, national and international allies, as well as social investors.
