Strengthening the work of four civil society networks on Mexico’s northern border

With the goal of strengthening the work of groups and networks of civil society in northern Mexico, and thereby increasing their influence within their local systems, the first phase of the Project for Strengthening Networks is now underway.

Through the collaboration of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Comunalia and UnidOSC, three community foundations: Fundación Internacional de la Comunidad, in Baja California, the Fundación del Empresariado Sonorense (FESAC), in Sonora, and the Fundación del Empresariado Chihuahuense (FECHAC), in Chihuahua, extended the an invitation to their networks to participate in these first sessions between May 11th and 15th.

In these first gatherings there was a participation of 68 leaders from 62 organizations who make up 27 networks in these three states. With a particular focus on the Solidarity Action Network (ASER) in Baja California; the Baja California Coalition of Organizations for Human Rights; the ImpulsOSC Network of Chihuahua; and Community Network (REDCOSON) of Sonora, these virtual sessions served to carry out the diagnosis and identification of issues to strengthen their respective networks.

In addition, each of the networks had the opportunity to identify their strategic objective and two specific objectives by visualizing a two year strategy to strengthen their capacity to promote incidence local public policies.

Through this alliance between USAID Mexico, UnidOSC and Comunalia is reinforcing the development and articulation processes of networks and groups of civil society organizations in the northern part of the country, to order to increase their influence in human rights and public policies at the state level.
