February 7, 2022Monterrey, Nuevo León, December 10, 2021. In line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Comunalia and its community foundations reaffirmed their commitment to the full exercise of human rights and freedoms through the “Declaration of Principles, Responsibilities, and Commitments on Human Rights” at the 2021 Annual General Meeting last November.
In light of the serious human rights crisis Mexico is facing, and recognizing that human rights violations have also occurred within civil society, the Alliance of Community Foundations of Mexico acknowledges the rights set forth in the International Charter of Human Rights and the principles regarding fundamental rights established in the Declaration of the International Labor Organization.
Thus, on the occasion of Human Rights Day on December 10, Comunalia reaffirms this commitment, “recognizing that freedom, justice, and peace in the world are based on the recognition of the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family.”
To fulfill its responsibility to respect human rights, Comunalia operates in accordance with the values of commitment, innovation, consistency, transparency, respect, unity, equity, and subsidiarity in its actions, partnerships, and relationships with employees, allies, donors, partner foundations, business partners, and any other governmental or nongovernmental organization directly or indirectly related to it.
Those who collaborate with Comunalia and its partner community foundations have also endorsed the Istanbul Principles for the Work of CSOs as Development Actors in order to:
- To respect and promote human rights and social justice.
- To incorporate gender equity and equality while promoting the rights of women and girls.
- Focus on empowerment, democratic ownership, and the
participation of all people. - Promote environmental sustainability.
- Practice transparency and accountability.
- Build equitable and supportive partnerships.
- Create and share knowledge and commit to mutual learning.
- Commit to bringing about positive and sustainable change.
“At the Alliance, we understand that our actions and our continued existence are contingent upon ensuring that all our actions are based on promoting human rights, integrity, professionalism, respect, and justice,” states the Declaration of Principles, Responsibilities, and Commitments on Human Rights.
In this way, Comunalia will work with its community foundations and in partnership with other stakeholders on social investment, capacity-building, and advocacy strategies, while always ensuring respect for and compliance with human rights.
