Building a Sustainable Future with Community Foundations in Mexico
August 20, 2023The Punta de Mita Foundation was established in 2007. Its work focuses on Punta de Mita and Banderas Bay, located on Mexico’s Pacific coast in the state of Nayarit. The foundation’s strategy combines the design and implementation of its own programs with support for initiatives by local groups and organizations.
The process of aligning with the SDGs at the FPM is the result of its participation in two complementary Comunalia initiatives: Signos Vitales and Building a Sustainable Future with Community Foundations in Mexico. By participating in both initiatives, the Punta de Mita Foundation has given new meaning to the concept of sustainable community development in its strategic plan and intervention model, and is currently working to align its programs with the SDGs.
This case study was developed by the research team at the Center for Philanthropy and Social Investment at Adolfo Ibáñez University (CEFIS UAI), led by Rodrigo Villar with the support of Ximena Veas, in 2023. It is part of the project “Localizing the SDGs to Promote Sustainable Communities in Latin America,” carried out with the support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
