Philanthropy in Latin America and the Caribbean: Engagement with Governments and Inclusion of New Voices
June 12, 2022Community philanthropy is a community-based practice that enables people to work collaboratively within a community to strengthen the capacity and voice of those who are least heard and most affected by the community’s problems, as well as to build trust and leverage local resources and knowledge to build and sustain a strong community (Doan 2019).
This framework, an ARRECIFE initiative led by the Fondo de Acción Solidaria (FASOL), is designed to contribute to and spark dialogue among funders on how to promote support for community philanthropy in Mexico. It was designed to suggest elements that funding organizations might consider when developing their own approach to community philanthropy, as well as to describe the challenges they might face—from defining the field to considering strategy, impact, and potential outcomes.
