Gobertia promotes transparency and improves good governance practices
September 1, 2020Monterrey, Nuevo León, September 1, 2020.—To address the ravages of the social crisis in Mexico, from September 1 to 30, Comunalia is participating in the #YoDonoPorqueMX campaign to share and spread stories of giving that will inspire more people to donate to social causes in Mexico.
This initiative aims to highlight acts of generosity and discover what truly motivates people to donate in Mexico through short stories shared by donors and volunteers in short videos or photos on social media, accompanied by the hashtag #YoDonoPorqueMX.
The campaign is taking place during the month of national celebrations to highlight the value of generosity as part of Mexican identity, against the backdrop of a pandemic that has hit the economy—an impact already being felt by the organized civil society sector in Mexico.
According to PULSOosc, a collaborative effort by donor organizations and foundations to assess the current situation facing the sector amid the COVID-19 pandemic, 95% of CSOs are at a medium or high level of vulnerability, while 85% report a decline in revenue in terms of financial sustainability.
The impact of the situation facing the sector will be reflected in the ability of organizations to continue providing social services to populations and sectors that were already vulnerable before the crisis, and as a result, social inequalities in the country would become even more pronounced.
That is why the #YoDonoPorqueMX campaign, in light of this new reality, is encouraging organizations—through donors and volunteers—to continue fostering public engagement in their causes and mobilizing resources to sustain their work.
Can I participate in #YoDonoPorqueMX?
Everyone can participate. Below are the steps you can follow so that you, too, can inspire others with your donation story.
1. Share your donation story.
This is a personal story about a time in your life when you made a donation. Stories can be about any type of donation—whether in kind, in cash, or when you donated your time through volunteer work.
2.- You can share your story in a video or photo accompanied by a short text.
If it's a video, hold your cell phone in portrait orientation, make sure there isn't too much background noise so your message can be heard clearly, and that's it—you can record a short video.
3.- An easy way to do this is to state your name and state of residence.
And answer the following questions: What inspired you to make the donation? Why did you choose that cause or organization? And how did you feel after making the donation?
4. Once your story is ready, share it on your social media.
Use the hashtag #YoDonoPorqueMx. If you mention an organization to which you made a donation, tag it and tag @Comunalia so we can learn about your story and share it.
5. Invite or nominate your friends to share their stories, too.
We’re already part of the movement of positive stories that inspire more people to become donors and volunteers. Today, organizations and social causes need this more than ever.
If you are part of an organization or foundation and would like to participate, please review and download this 2020 Practical Guide. In just a few simple steps, you can motivate and inspire more people.
The #YoDonoPorqueMx campaign is an initiative of #UnDíaParaDar México, the Mexican version of GivingTuesday, the global movement that promotes generosity toward social causes. In Mexico, it is celebrated on Tuesday, December 1.
