Comunalia reaffirms its commitment to respecting and defending human rights
December 10, 2021The Alliance of Community Foundations of Mexico is part of #UnDíaParaDar 2021, the global movement for generosity that encourages citizens to get involved in their communities so that, through donations of time, talent, voice, goods, or money, they can contribute to a social cause.
The global movement is also known as #GivingTuesday, with activities taking place in more than 75 countries, including Mexico, and this year it will be celebrated on November 30, with the aim of inspiring millions of people to give and celebrate the power of generosity.
Guided by the philosophy that we can all play a part in bringing about the changes we want to see in our communities, and as part of the #UnDíaParaDar celebration, various community foundations partnered with Comunalia in Ciudad Juárez, Querétaro, and San Cristóbal are launching donation campaigns to address issues related to gender and children.
“We are very excited that the Alliance of Community Foundations is joining #UnDíaParaDar once again because we share a common purpose: to encourage people to get involved with the causes they care about and the communities where they live,” said Anita Gallagher, leader of #UnDíaParaDar in Mexico.
The Northern Border Community Foundation in Chihuahua has called on the public to donate personal hygiene items, which will be distributed to women incarcerated at CERESO No. 2. Donations will be accepted at 4305 20 de Noviembre Street, El Colegio neighborhood, 32350; and also at 5961 Barranco Azul Street, Parque Industrial Aeropuerto neighborhood, 32695, in Ciudad Juárez.
For its part, the Merced Querétaro Foundation is running the #DonandoEsperanza campaign to raise funds to cover the costs of food, education, healthcare, and caregivers for 800 children in 14 group homes in that state. Donations can be made online through the HIPGIVE platform: https://cutt.ly/DTsCXDM.
In Chiapas, Amigos de San Cristóbal A.C. is promoting an online fundraising campaign on the Global Giving platform: https://bit.ly/3xjfAw3, with the goal of raising $1 million to fund projects dedicated to improving the quality of education, the environment, and the health of children and women in the Altos de Chiapas region. At the same time, the organization has partnered with Madonna Mia Pizzeria SC, and 50% of sales through December 4 will be donated to the community foundation.
Everyone can join the movement by volunteering, organizing fundraisers among friends to support causes they care about, making online donations, helping their neighbors, cleaning up parks, planting trees, and donating blood—to name just a few activities. We invite you to share these acts of kindness on social media using the hashtag #UnDíaParaDar to inspire others to join in.
At Comunalia, we believe that collective generosity is closely linked to the role that community philanthropy plays in local development, which is why #UnDíaParaDar is an opportunity for community foundations and civil society organizations to connect with people, offer new ways to show their solidarity, and work together to build the community they long to live in.
