10 Social Initiatives Tackling COVID-19 in Mexico
June 1, 2020
It's okay not to be okay
June 14, 2020Monterrey, Nuevo León, June 8, 2020.— Comunalia has just joined the initiative #WeDoItForMexico, launched by the Social Value Institute, Deriva, Ecoagency, Valores para el Tercer Milenio, and Fundación Gentera, to address the mental health needs of staff members at its community foundations across Mexico, who are providing immediate support in response to the crisis.
Emotional overload, system capacity constraints, long workdays, contact with vulnerable and at-risk groups, as well as personal life events, create a latent risk of developing anxiety and post-traumatic stress, according to Comunalia.
During these three months of the pandemic in Mexico, staff members at Comunalia’s 16 partner community foundations have focused on providing immediate responses to the needs of the communities where they operate, which has led to an exponential increase in working hours and pressure to meet tight deadlines and urgent requirements.
Through this initiative, the Social Value Institute, Deriva, Ecoagency, Valores para el Tercer Milenio, and Fundación Gentera are demonstrating their solidarity in the face of the pandemic and Mexico’s social challenges, with the aim of professionally addressing the damage caused to the mental health of various sectors.
The project kicked off last week, and it will be implemented using the Deriva Method, which involves a psychological assessment of the symptoms experienced by members of partner community foundations. Subsequently, cases will be addressed individually through regular virtual sessions, and some teams will even receive group support sessions, including periodic follow-ups throughout the project.
For Comunalia, the mental and emotional well-being of those who work at the 16 partner community foundations across the country is very important, as they are the ones who have been working directly with the communities most affected by this crisis.
